The road to the Bjorge Place

We took a drive the other night over to the Bjorge place to see if we could get our tractor out of the field and home.  This is what we found:

That Tractor isn't going anywhere right now.

The fence is almost under water.

The water is getting close to running over the road.

And there is still lots of snow to melt.

I am guessing we won't be planting all that field.

I think there are going to be lots of spots in numerous fields that we won't get to seed this spring.  With the field pictured above, we almost planted some alfalfa in it last fall.  We are thankful we didn't, as that seed would have been a loss with all that water sitting.

11,12,13

11. 12. 13.  You met 14 the other day.  These are what is left of my original herd.  I'l still waiting on these old gals to calve, but it shouldn't be much longer.  I am hoping for a couple of heifer calves out of these 3 for some replacement heifers to use in our herd.  Guess time will tell!

Splish Splash!

After our recording breaking year of snow fall we are slowly beginning to thaw out around here.  Though the forcast is calling for rain and snow for the next three days!  Below are some of Tally playing in the yard.  The next couple of posts I have some incredible pictures of the water running through the farm yard, fences buried in water, water running over the road and more.  And there is still a ton of snow to melt off!!

Old Man Winter

It was reported on the local news the other day that our area broke over a hundred year old record!  That record is the amount of snowfall in one year.  The old record was from the winter of 1895/1896 with 94.7 inches of snowfall.  Officially in the winter of 2010/2011 we have had 95.1 inches of snow so far!  To put that into perspective our average snowfall is around 43.4 inches of snow a year.  And to put that into more perspective, April is the 8th month in a row we have had snow!!  Needless to say we are all ready for summer and some much needed sunshine!

End of March and it's thawing some.  Tally still had to dig swing out of snow to play with it.

She has been waiting 8 long months to play on her swingset!

#14 and Her Bull Calf

What a good mama



We had our first calf a couple of weeks ago.  The first bull calf of the season.    #14 is a cow I bought a few years out of college when I had the opportunity to buy ten head.  Ten head of my very own.  My cows, my brand, my calves and of course my loan!  I was quite proud of my accomplishment back then.  This is the first year I will have what's left of my first cows here at our home place.  They have been with my dad's herd since I left home.  We have room for them now here at the home place, and it gives dad an opportunity to run more of his own.

It was the first Sugar Beet Harvest for us

It was quite the learning experience for me

The weather cooperated pretty well

I didn't get in on any of the harvest as I was pregnant and not feeling well.  Bouncing through the field  was not an option for me.

I did watch from the sidelines and soak up some sunshine.

It is still up in the air on weather we will be planting Sugar Beets in 2011, as the decision on if we will be able to use Round-up Ready Beets or not.  So until that decision is made by those in charge, we don't know what we will be doing.  

Ramblings

Hopefully soon, my computer issues are solved and my desktop is back up and running.  I have a slew of pictures and stories to share, all which are downloaded on the other computer.  It has been hard for me to blog, knowing I don't have any pictures to share, or maybe I have been using that as an excuse! :)

So coming soon, our first sugar beet harvest, pictures of the ponies, and all kinds of random stuff.
