Sugar Beet Saga Day #1

Sugar Beet Harvest (which, really should, if not already, have its own hashtag) has officially begun in North East Montana.   There are some changes to this years harvest, one which is with leasing more beet ground, I became the Head Lunch Cook.  Head Lunch Cook reads quite well when you capitalize it.  I shall state right up front, that I would not be able to pull this head cook/bottle washing job off with out an abundance of help with the baking, menu planning and helping deliver.  Though, I am quite suspicious no one has volunteered to come help me do dishes!

Now, I always try to take pictures.  Pictures of harvest, planting, seeding, calving, weaning, growing, irrigating..... and any another 'ing' word associated with farming.

But besides the fun farming and ranching pictures I may take, there is always the ugly pictures.  The pictures you that whole the truth.  The pictures that are real.  The pictures that make you go 'yep.  I totally understand'.    Well below I have 2 of those real, real harvest pictures.  Proceed only if you are brave.

Roaster Liner!! I forgot the bleeping roaster liner!!!!  And so now my roaster shall sit, overnight soaking.  The whole time I will be praying I have no scraping and scrubbing to do.

How do I only have 2 serving spoons?  2!!!  Though it was pointed out to me, that a certain friend knew this about me so this is why she now incorporates a spoon into any gift she gives me.

Theres a Bad Moon on the Rise...

Well, there was actually an awesome moon rise the other night, the title is just a catchy tune that plays through my head everytime I want a moon rise.  Ok, let me get back on track here;

The other night while out checking cows, tagginf babies and giving them their evening treat of corn, the girls and I stopped and took in a beautiful moon rise.  

It was absolutely gorgeous!   I wish I would have had my camera with instead of my phone.  Unfortunately, I rarely take it with unless hubby is going and I am in picture taking mode.  

It was so wonderous to watch.  There was homework to be done, goats, rabbits, pigs and dogs to be fed. And let us not forget the kids that needed fed.  But we stopped, we watched and we made a memory.  I need to do that mlre often. 

So, even though the pictures you are looking at are just iPhone quality, the moment spent with my girls is high quality.  Heres to the next 'bad moon on the rise'!  

It's That Time of Year!

It's that time of year, that time of year where Mother Nature can't make up her mind from day to day what season she'll drop in us.  

It's that time of year when horse hair is covering every glove, coat and work jeans you own.  

It's that time of year when baby bovines are being born!  I love calving season.   I love the new babies.  I love the sense of rebirth, starting over.  And I love the smile they bring to my kids and my face.  

Unfortunately, very little of my time has been spent tagging babies, or doing much of any spring work.  My time was spent having an unplanned surgery to remove my gallbladder and then of course on the recovery road 'taking it easy and healing'.  I don't sit still very well.  But, I feel a 1000 times better and am back to almost normal activity

Yes, its that time of year.  Time of year of new dreams, hopes and prayers.  And that time of year where you sit straddling a fence, trying to decide what your next plan of action you will attempt on that ticked of heifer in the corral.  

New Adventures of Tally

Things just got a 'weeeee' bit more crazy around here!   Tally is finally old enought to be enrolled in 4H.   In her words 'she has been waiting for this for years'!   2 weekends ago we took a road trip to my home country to pick up her market animal project for the year.  

May I introduce you to Brooks and Dunn.  I do have to say, my kiddos hold a special talent for naming animals!

Tally is super excited about these pigs.  Thee day we picked them up she was on a roller coaster of emotions.  Tears of happiness, fear, and excitement were shed throught the day.  

As she starts her 4H career full of excitement, energy, enthusiasm and drive I pray she carries all that through her 10 years and makes the most of 4H.  I pray she makes so many wonderful memories and friends and takes all that she learns to help her adult years.   

Happy New Year

It's been a wild and crazy New Years Eve at our house tonight!  Or not.  While I wouldn't have minded a house full of friends, I am thoroughly enjoying our night of family time.   

Hubby smoked a brisket, some ribs, and made hashbrown hotdish.  Yummy!!

We blew the dust off of the Wii and have been bowling, boxing, fishing and laughing at out our very poor gaming skills.  

I wish you all peace, love, health and happiness in 2016.

We were out tagging calves, feeding corn to cows the other night when Tally captured this video.



#473 has become braver over last few weeks, and she finally decided to eat out of the bucket and let me scratch her head.  There's one in every crowd!

Days Gone By

I love old stuff. I really love old stuff that is related to farming, ranching and cowboying. 

I love taking a new trail through a pasture and discovering things from days gone by. It always make me smile and wonder how my discovery came to be left and forgotten in that specific spot.  Did the owner become fed up and walk away?  Did they buy a new piece to replace what they had been using?  Oh the stories that have been forgotten.  

We took a drive to check a water tank the other night and I took these two pictures.  Both pieces sitting stately, proudly if not a bit sadly on the prairie. 

 I wonder what stories these two forgotten pieces of history could tell us?

Horse Therapy

Spring time = horse time!   Horse time = happy mama and kids!

Our horseshoer came the other day, so we took the opportunity to have some horse therapy!  Horses are good for the soul, the mind and the attitude!

Crystal Cattle Beauty Swap

What a fun beauty swap!!!  Crystal Cattle hosted a beauty swap, 30th Birthday Edition!   I was teamed up with Dalynn Ramsay, and what a match we were!  Great match and great fun!  

Dalynn farms and ranches with her husband and 2 little ones in Saskatchewan.  My neighbor to the north.  Our lives and preferences were quite similar, and we both love cows!  If farming and ranching with her husband, 2 littles running around didn't keep her busy enough, Dalynn also runs an independent agronomy company from home.  You go girl!

My beauty swap  box contained all kinds of fun things and surprises.  It was so fun!

So thankful Dalynn sent these for me to discover!

Loreal True Match Powder and Make up Lotion, something like I've never tried before.  Doesn't give me the pasty look and it's not 'heavy' feeling on my skin.  The Garnier BB Cream, now Ive tried a few, but this doesn't leave me skin feeling like it can't breathe.  

Lip Balms, Mascara, eye shadow, OH My!

Nail Buffer, this has found permanent place in my pickup! 

Mascara!  I love mascara, and am always searching for the perfect one!  The is a gel mascara, and so far I'm enjoying it.  It doesn't run or rub off and seems to last through the day.  In her note Dalynn said 'I think you'll never leave home without your new Babylips', well she was right.  What great lip balm.

This beauty swap was a hit.  I just hope Daylnn had as much fun getting to know each other and picking out stuff.

Oh!  I can't forget the Smarties!  These are another Canadian favorite, and while she didn't open and count she's pretty sure theres got to be 30 Smarties in there in honor of your birthday Crystal!

Skincare Saturday

Sunscreen!!  It's such a simple step to taking care of our skin, but one that sometimes gets forgotten.

I'm a stickler for putting sunscreen on my children, but all too often I forget to put it on myself.  Yesterday was a great example.  We spent most of the day outside fencing, checking cows, playing and messing with horses.  I applied Rodan + Fields sunscreen to my daughters face and arms and my face.  I did not apply to my arms and chest.  Ooops!!  Ladies this stuff works!  My daughters are fair skinned little blonde Norwegian girls, and at the end of the day TC skin wasn't burnt, unlike my chest and arms!





There's several different SPF levels available,  also a mineral base sunscreen.  Let me help you and get you hooked up with some sunscreen for the summer!  We shall all be spending more time outdoors, lets keep taking care of ourselves while having fun!

New Opportunity

Well, I've been riding the fence on this for some time, but finally decided to jump in feet first!

I started using Rodan + Fields Soothe on my children awhile back on their eczema.  Oh my goodness!!  It didn't burn them, it cleared it up and has it under control.  Finally relief for my two little blondes.  

I then started using the Reverse line on myself.  Spending lifetime out in the sun has left me with with some sun spots and more.  Though I am wear my hats and sunscreen, stuff happens.

Because of those two things, I am now a R + F consultant.  I decided I needed to share these products with my friends.

Heres a few things to get your interest up:

* Their Soothe line is great for eczema, psoriasis, and daily routine for people with sensitive skin.  I can't say enough about this line, it has been wonderful for my girls.

Easter Weekend

Easter weekend was a few days of swing set building, checking cows, family dinners, Sunday School program, hiding Easter eggs, and being grateful.


I hope your weekend was all that it was meant to be for you.

April Showers

Spring seems to sprung around here. While I'm always ready and anxious for spring, I have been saying prayers for a good old spring snow storm and wonderful spring rains.

I pray Mother Nature brings the rain and snow to us, but especially to the people of Harding County SD.  The Sheep Draw fire in Harding County is over 10,000 acres, and it's only March.  

So enjoy spring and all that it brings, crocuses, babies, green grass.  But take a moment and say a prayer for April Showers, and for all those fighting wild fires.  

Christmas Beauty Swap

Wow!  What a fun beauty swap!  Not only was I paired up with a fellow Montanan, my partner lives in Ekalaka!  Yes, Ekalaka!  Not only is Ekalaka fun to say, it's my old stomping, growing up, having fun grounds, and one of my favorite places!  Southeast Montana and Southwest North Dakota really do hold many fun and awesome memories.  

Ya know it's going to be a great day when you (I) get a card from Ekalaka!!

My partner, Michael, is a recent graduate of SDSU, and works at local paper doing graphics, and helping around the place.  We did most of our communicating via text, and got to know each other before figuring out what to place in that box to mail out!

Michael sent me such a fun box!  I mean, the gal sent me a can kookie, it's like she really got me!  :)

We discussed how neither one of us are really good at getting that smokey eye look down, so she sent me this eye shadow, to see if I can get it to work.  I have tried the lipstick, and love.  Not to bold, but fun.  The sample of bright bold lipstick, I'm going to rock at Christmas.   I love Mary Kay products, and this goodies that Michael sent me, I haven't tried that product or particular color.  And like Michael pointed out, if the lip gloss, or lip stick color turns out not to be for 'me', then (as long as dad approves) I can play makeover with the girls! 

Fun!

She included in my box, a fun new kitchen towel. Michael wrote that 'they are made by a local gal here and just cute.  That chick is my favorite part.'  Thanks!

I mean really, 'nuff said.  She sent me a can koozie, PLUS it says Ekalaka on it.  Some maybe shaking there head and I'm over here all 'be still my heart!'.

Love this stuff!!  And perfect size to throw in my bag for holiday travels.

This stuff equals amazing!!  Holy cow!!  This body butter feels amazing and works amazing on my hands.  Just started using it on my feet.  Wow.

One of the coolest things about my partner and the box she sent was that she bought everything local!  How cool is that!

October #ccbeautyswap

Oh my!  What a fun beauty swap this was!  This past month I once again participated in a beauty swap hosted by Crystal who writes the Crsytal Cattle blog (one of my faves) and Ashley from Messy Kennedy ( I am new to her blog, and am enjoying it).   

I was partnered up with Andrea, and have enjoyed getting to know her and put together a box of goodies for her. Andrea is a newlywed, a new mom who lives in Texas and works with 4-H kids.  In fact, one email I received from Andrea she had typed and sent while at the Texas state fair waiting on 4-H kids to judge livestock!

I enjoyed our emails, and the beauty tips she shared, products she loved and how we are both still searching for the perfect mascaras or lipsticks. Through our emails, and the goodie box she sent, Andrea introduced me to several new products to try. 

My first three products she shared are so fun.  I love having my nails painted, and I can never have too many lip products.  I had never tried either of these lip gloss/sticks. The Baby lips is so moisturizing and feels doesn't feel heavy at all. The big lip crayon has yet to be tested, but can't wait. 

Argon oil!  I just recently discovered this for my hair and am in love!  I've used this several times already and will become a staple in my makeup/beauty regimen. 

Hog Wash hand sanitizer. How fun!  It's found its place in my purse already.

BB cream. Wow.  I had never tried and after vision with Andrea I had decided I needed some. Thankfully she sent me one to try.  I've used a couple days now, and am pretty sure I won't run out of this.  Love how easy it is, and how it makes my skin feel and look. 

Oh man!  Working outside, I can never have too much sunscreen or hand cream. This Supergoop stuff is great. 

I have to say I scored in my beauty box, and in gaining a new friend. Thank you Andrea, I am so glad we got matched up!  I had so much fun shopping for you!
